Bird Migration through the Seasons

Dan Ziomek, a life-long birder and host of “Birdsongs” on 93.9 FM, will discuss how bird species play an important role in keeping our natural world in balance.  Bird migration is the never-ending cycle of comings and goings. The birds that have been with us all winter are beginning to head north, soon to be replaced by birds that moved south for the winter. It is through these migratory shifts that birders like myself have noticed a steady decline in bird populations over time. Birds play an important role in our natural world from pollination to seed dispersal and pest control. Any loss of bird species or population is a loss for all of us. 

Dan has been birding throughout the valley and beyond all his life. He has led numerous trips in search of birds for the Hampshire Bird Club as well as the Hitchcock Center in Amherst. He also has a radio program on 93.9 The River called “Birdsongs” at 3:30 and 6:30 every weekday. He has been in the gardening business for over thirty years and enjoys helping customers create bird and pollinator friendly gardens. He has lived in Amherst all his life and is married to Emily and they have two wonderful children, Nate and Sophie.
